- Crack-resistant
- Corrosion-resistant
- No preheating or baking required
- More eco-friendly and energy-saving
The hot top liner is made of high-temperature resistant fiber cotton with a maximum service temperature of 1730°C. Compared with traditional insulation linings, it features crack resistance and corrosion resistance and can be used directly without preheating and baking. The yield rate increases by approximately 10%. It can replace self-heating insulation liners for better environmental protection and energy saving. Hot top liners are used for ingot casting of stainless steel, superalloys and various non-ferrous metals.
A hot top is a frame-shaped insulating crown fitted on an ingot mold, mainly composed of refractory materials. It enables slow cooling of molten metal and concentrates shrinkage cavities inside the hot top to produce dense ingots. When fully filled, heating agents (mixtures of ferrosilicon powder, charcoal powder, aluminum powder, etc.), thermal insulation powder (brick powder, white slag powder, etc.) or arc heating measures are often added to enhance heat retention.
Based on the mounting method, hot tops are classified into fixed type and floating type. The fixed type is suitable for rolled ingots and placed evenly on the top of ingot molds. The floating type applies to forged ingots and supports multi-mold casting by adjusting the height of supports under the hot top trunnions to accommodate ingots of different weights.
